Lightning Protection System Integrity Checks – You Must Do at Least Yearly

The importance of Inspection, Testing, Recording and Maintenance of a lightning protection system need not be overemphasized.

An effective lightning protection system should Intercept, Dispense and Conduct Safely the lightning energy to the ground without affecting the structure and the systems within.

The code IEC/BS EN 62305 adequately detail requirements for inspection of a lightning protection system, tests required and the records that should be maintained.

At least yearly checks of vital components within the lightning protection system, which may have suffered from corrosion and likely to exhibit a high resistance joint should not be missed.

These have a detrimental effect on the whole lightning protection system, makes unattractive high impedance path for the lightning current to flow.

This regular examination, inspections, selection of the correct materials should be done in accordance with the recommendations of the code of practice.
