How to Make Easy, Cheap & Multiple Electrical Connections – FurseWELD (Exothermic Welding)

In most applications, where making large or small numbers of high quality, electrical connections are required. FurseWELD comes handy.

They typically find applications in;

  • Earthing for power plants and substations
  • Telecommunications
  • Transmission and power distribution lines
  • Cathodic protection
  • Rail connections

FurseWELD is cost effective, simple, self-contained system that uses high temperature reaction of powdered copper oxide and Aluminium within a mould, to form electrical connections.

Benefits of FurseWELD are

  • Requires no external power or heat source
  • Creates high quality electrical connections
  • Is completely portable
  • Can be used safely with minimum training
  • Is cost effective
  • Can be used for over 45 standard connection configurations.

Advantages

The FurseWELD joints or connections come with the following advantages.

  • Tolerant to repeated fault currents
  • Highly conductive
  • Do not loosen
  • Excellent corrosion resistance

The FurseWELD Equipment

They comprise of

  1. Mould
  2. Handle
  3. Powder
  4. Retaining disc
  5. Flirt gum

The FurseWELD Process

The procedure of making joints is simple and illustrated below

Moulds

The moulds create safe and robust connections and of different types whose use are dependent on the requirements of the project. They are of three types, namely;

Graphite Moulds

The graphite moulds are extremely robust and capable of producing over 75 connections each.

Mini-Moulds

Mini-moulds are a cost effective alternative to full-sized moulds, especially where lower numbers of connections are required. They are smaller overall, less robust and therefore lower priced.

SureSHOT

The SureSHOT system is a single-use ceramic mould supplied complete with retaining disc and powders. It has been designed for use in applications where only a few connections are required.
